Describe the problem/error/question
I accidentally activated the Startup license on my self-hosted n8n, because I thought the $40 was in TWD (New Taiwan Dollars), not USD.
I realized this mistake within a few hours and immediately sent a support email ( 2 days ago), but haven’t received a reply yet.
I haven’t used any Pro features, and I’d just like to revert back to the Community Edition.
Can someone from the team help me with this, thank you so much?

What is the error message (if any)?
No error message — this is a billing/license issue.

Hi,
You might be able to use :
there is a license:clear option.
for the billing part, you need to discuss that with N8N

Hi, thank you very much for your help. I have one more question:
When using a self-hosted version of n8n, I noticed that the system sends a license key upon initial setup.
If I run the n8n license:clear command, it should also remove that original license key.
Will this have any impact on my instance or cause any problems?
Thank you😀
Hi,
not sure to be honest.
But it might, since it does create a fingerprint for the unique device and it has license info even without the registered community version.
I don’t think it will remove the basic license as it would make the system unusable imho. (only one way to find it out. let me know:)

Hey @hse_David , just run the CLI command as @jcuypers advised. This will remove the Startup license key (as well as any other you might have added) from your n8n instance. If you mean to have Community Edition only that will do it. The encryption key does not get affected by this.
As for the Startup cancellation and refund we will look into it after the weekend.
Hello, thank you very much for your reply.
I have already executed the CLI command you provided, and I have also received the refund from your company — thank you for that.
However, after we rebooted our VPS, we are no longer able to log in.
That said, all the files in our SQLite database are still there, including the account data and workflows.
I mentioned the details of what we have done so far in another post where I also tagged you.
Here is the post
Hello,
We are encountering a serious issue and would appreciate any help.
@ihortom @jon
Our Situation:
We upgraded our self-hosted n8n server (VPS) to v1.88.0 about two weeks ago.
Everything was functioning normally until we rebooted our VPS today.
After rebooting, the system forces us into the Create Account page, even though all user, workflow, and credentials data still exist in the sqlite database.
Actions We’ve Already Taken:
Created a backup of database.sqlite.
…
If you have some time, it would be greatly appreciated if you could take a look and let me know where the issue might be.
Thank you again for your help!
