On paper, GPT 5 looks better for AI agents. And it’s also cheap, if you use the smaller versions.

Did you already tried it in production?

Are there reasons to stick with gpt 4o or 4.1?

GPT-5 is definitely the upgrade and will replace 4o in the long run — it’s stronger, cheaper (with the smaller versions), and better suited for AI agents. But it’s still not fully stable yet, so for now it’s smart to keep 4o or 4.1 in production and play around with GPT-5 on the side until it’s battle-tested.
