I’m encountering an issue when trying to set up a Google Service Account credential in n8n to connect to Google Document AI. I’m using n8n version 1.86 (installed about two weeks ago, around mid-April 2025), and I keep getting the following error when saving the credential:

I’m trying to use the Google Document AI API to process documents via an HTTP Request node in n8n. I need to authenticate using a Google Service Account credential.

What I’ve Tried
- Using the Full JSON Key:

I downloaded the JSON key file from Google Cloud and pasted the entire content into the Private Key field of the Google Service Account credential in n8n.

- I extracted just the private_key part from the JSON and pasted it into the Private Key field, ensuring proper formatting with line breaks:

I created a new JSON key for the service account in Google Cloud and tried using it (both the full JSON and just the private_key).

- Workaround with Manual Authentication:
- As a temporary workaround, I generated an access token using gcloud:

I then used the token in the HTTP Request node with Header Auth (Authorization: Bearer [TOKEN]), and this worked to call the Document AI API.

However, this is not ideal because the token expires every hour, and I need a long-term solution with the Google Service Account credential.

I’m using n8n 1.86, which I believe is recent (installed around mid-April 2025).

I’ve seen similar issues reported in older versions of n8n, but I expected this to be resolved in 1.86.

I also have a working Google OAuth2 API credential for Document AI, but it requires daily reauthorization, which is not suitable for automation.
