around here the $execution.id function doesn’t seem to be working, has it changed?

Looks correct to me. As it says, will it be filled at execution time ([filled at execution tiome]). When you create at a workflow, then there is no execution, and so nothing to display. Only when you actually execute the workflow, will it have an execution and has so something to display.
