Is it possible to use n8n to create an internal API

Hi,

Do you need a licence if using n8n to build an internal API for a paid product? (e.g build an API to let the frontend interact with the database)

The question came into a nocode community and I was unsure about the answer?

Thanks!

Baptiste

It looks like your topic is missing some important information. Could you provide the following if applicable.

  • n8n version:
  • Database (default: SQLite):
  • n8n EXECUTIONS_PROCESS setting (default: own, main):
  • Running n8n via (Docker, npm, n8n cloud, desktop app):
  • Operating system:

Hi @Baptiste_JACQUEMET, thanks for reaching out and that’s a good question.

If you were interested in embedding the n8n interface into your own application then you would need to enquire about an n8n embed license, but if you are just using n8n as a makeshift API layer then no.

We even released a blog post last year that described just that.
