N8N in engineering

Hello community! I’m a third-year Electrical Engineering student, and I’ve recently noticed a trend in job requirements within my field: a growing demand for expertise in automation tools like n8n and practical experience with AI/AI agents.

I’m proactively seeking to develop these skills. Does anyone here have experience applying n8n or AI in the engineering sector? I would greatly appreciate guidance on where to begin my learning journey and what specific concepts or applications I should focus on.

Thanks in advance for your insights

Hey @nihya !

Welcome to n8n !

I don’t know what you enjoy more to do in your spare time or at school, but what I can think of right now that’s related with E.E , maybe playing with a RaspberryPy , and for s IOT the Home Assistant node.

Basically… the limits are yours.

Cheers!

Hey @nihya I have a friend that has an electrical engineering degree but now he builds n8n workflows on YouTube.

@nihya Start here: Learn n8n by automating something simple in your own life first.

Pick a small project: Automate your study notes - like saving important emails to Google Sheets automatically.

Use free resources: Do the n8n beginner tutorials on their website. They’re very practical.

Connect to EE later: Once you’re comfortable, think about how you could connect sensors or lab data to these workflows.

AI step: Start by using n8n’s built-in AI nodes to summarize text or analyze data - try it on your class notes or project reports.

Build your portfolio: Make 2-3 small automations that show you can connect different tools together. This is what employers want to see.

Don’t overcomplicate it: Just start with one simple workflow today. The rest will follow naturally.

Good luck mate.
