Hey, how are you? I don’t consider myself an expert on N8N yet, but I can help you with what I’m learning. N8N can be used self-hosted or you can use the Cloud version.
In the case of Cloud, when using the servers that N8N offers, you would pay for the service.
If you host it on your own server, you wouldn’t pay anything, and as for the product licenses, if you’re going to use it for your own company, it would fall within what’s allowed.

Self-hosting is free only while you stay on the Community edition, and in a company setup the pieces you usually end up needing are licensed even on your own server: SSO (SAML and LDAP), projects and sharing, environments, git version control, external secrets, log streaming, external binary storage, and multi-main mode. Queue mode, local logging, and unlimited workflows and executions are all in the free edition, and registering your instance with an email gets you a permanent free key that adds folders, debug in editor, and custom execution data.
Price is one half of the question, the license is the other. The Sustainable Use License covers use for your own internal business purposes, so automating your own company’s operations is fine, including paying someone to build those workflows for you. Reselling n8n, hosting instances for clients as a paid service, or white-labelling it into your own product falls outside it and needs the n8n Embed agreement.
