QA related - Execute a workflow and capture a node/s output

Hi,
The webhook method of triggering a workflow is fine for the production usage.

But for QA purposes, we would like to trigger the workflow and either by means of a ID/Polling or a sync call then get the output of a specific node or nodes.

Can anyone point to documentation or sample code that can do this.
