Question about using n8n from Iran

Hey guys, I wanted to ask a question about your terms of service.

It states:

“Neither party shall export, directly or indirectly, any technical data acquired from the other party under this EULA (or any products, including software, incorporating any such data) in breach of any applicable laws or regulations (Export Control Laws), including United States export laws and regulations, to any country for which the government or any agency thereof at the time of export requires an export licence or other governmental approval without first obtaining such licence or approval.”

Now, because you guys are based in Berlin, and the governing law is UK (I think) and not the U.S., it is completely fine for n8n to be exported to Iran, since U.S. sanctions and export laws affect U.S. companies and U.S. technology.

So in this case - can I use it and would it be fine since I’m currently in Iran?

Thanks a lot!

The export clause in the n8n terms means both sides must follow all applicable export laws, including U.S. sanctions and export control rules, even if n8n is based in Berlin. It’s not just about German/UK law.

U.S. sanctions on Iran are very broad and generally restrict exporting software, services, or technology to Iran without a license or specific authorization from U.S. authorities (like OFAC/EAR).

So just being outside the U.S. doesn’t automatically make it fine to use a cloud service like n8n from Iran it may still fall under those export rules depending on how the software is classified and delivered. @amirdesigns you should checkout this article it has a lot information: OFAC

If this matters legally, it’s safest to check directly with the company or get legal advice about sanctions compliance. Just sharing what i found online, consider deep dive into that article for more clarity, Cheers! And ya Welcome to the n8n community!
