Question regarding Limit of Shared Projects

Hi n8n community,

We are currently on the Pro plan, and we feel quite limited by the fact that it only allows 3 shared projects. Since everything else works well for us, upgrading to the Business plan is not an option at the moment, as the jump from €50/month to €667/month is significant.

Is there any other way to increase the number of shared projects? Perhaps via self-hosting? What would the limit be in that case? To be honest, even a limit of 6 (Business Plan) can be reached quite quickly.

With the free self-hosted n8n instances, you can’t have projects. This is a feature of the paid plans.

But you could use projects to manage user access instead of workflows.

Each project can have different users, and within each project, you can create folders that contain sub-projects. The main purpose of the parent projects is to manage user access and credentials, while the folders help organize the workflows and sub-projects more effectively.
