Quick question about n8n license usage

Hello n8n team,

I have a quick question about n8n licensing. I am currently asking mainly out of curiosity, just to better understand the license boundaries.

The use case I have in mind is roughly this:

  • n8n is not exposed to end users as an editor or workflow builder.

  • n8n runs only in the background.

  • The user can only view automation status through a separate dashboard.

  • The user cannot access the n8n UI and cannot modify workflows.

  • The workflows process data and automate certain tasks.

Could you please clarify:

  1. Would this kind of use case fall under the Sustainable Use License?

  2. Would a separate commercial agreement or paid license be required?

  3. Would this be considered backend-only usage, or would it fall under OEM?

I would really appreciate a short clarification.

Thank you very much.

Hi @Tuna_Sumer Welcome!
I think reading this would bring some help:

Also maybe my on point article would bring some help:

Hello all,

thank you for the great responses. They are very helpfull. I will contact with sales in that case.

Kind regards,

Tuna

@anon61017519 Go easy on your AI responses buddy

@anon61017519 That’s ironic because you posted this exact message in the latest 6 threads

I see you’re an excellent observer.

That’s exactly what I did, since my posts were removed.

They removed the part you said about my use of AI from this post first.

Then they removed it from the other 6 posts.

So I replicated the answer in the posts, so it’s not a secret to anyone. If there are any doubts, then it’s recorded.

It’s regrettable to see that you find this ironic, because I didn’t do anything ironic to make anyone smile; on the contrary, I spent several hours in the community answering questions, and suddenly my posts are removed.

Now I hope I’ve made it clear how I do things.

I didn’t break any rules, I respected all the rules.

But the worst part is seeing you find this ironic. Did you enjoy making fun of my effort? Do you find it ironic to see a community member misinterpreted and unfairly punished because they were misinterpreted?

Do you find this ironic?

I am pretty sure we had had these conversations before about ur use of AI and you getting very defensive with long texts in response.

@bartv can you please have a look😁

@BramKn
Some people give short answers.
Some people give long answers.
Each person has their own individual way of being.
I think it’s fair to properly answer each point, so there are no doubts.
If you believe that my use of AI is breaking the rules, I kindly ask that you take the question asked by the user and put it into ChatGPT or any other AI you wish.
Then compare it with my answers.
See the difference and tell me.
But post it in the community to make the differences clear, OK?

I am available @bartv

Sorry no, and you are doing exactly the same again with theong defensive answer.

I dont remember what the conclusion was last time, so will let Bart do his thing.

I am stepping out of the conversation as u have wasted enough of my time in the past. :+1:

I remembered you. We really wasted a lot of time in the past. Precious time.

But nothing compares to the satisfaction of seeing people thanking you for your help.

Your attitude is always the same, it hasn’t changed.

Don’t confuse defensiveness with clarifying. I think you know the difference.
