Register community edition results in error

Describe the problem/error/question

I am trying to register my community edition to unlock features that I previously had. however, when I try to request a activation key, I get the following error:

What is the error message (if any)?

License request failed

Failed to register community edition: socket hang up

Please share your workflow

I entered my email address and hit “send me a free license key” button.

Information on your n8n setup

  • n8n version:: 2.0.3

  • Database (default: SQLite): default

  • n8n EXECUTIONS_PROCESS setting (default: own, main): default

  • Running n8n via (Docker, npm, n8n cloud, desktop app): podman. I also tried starting the container with the “start --tunnel” option.

  • Operating system: linux

For this type of issue, I recommend contacting n8n Support directly via the inbox:

You’ll first get a response from the n8n AI Agent. If that doesn’t solve the problem, you can reply with: “I want to talk to a human, please.”

I was on the free plan as well, and I received the first reply after about 24 hours. Once the ticket was assigned to a Support Engineer, the response time became much faster (around 10–20 minutes).
