Unable to find n8n API Key

Hi there,

new to n8n. I was trying to connect n8n with claude mcp and it required the n8n api key. I followed the steps but couldn’t find the “n8n API” section in settings. I’m on the trial version and while I was checking the pricing it did say “Control n8n API“ is available in starters. Just wondering if it’s not enabled because I’m on trial or am I missing something? I’m using the cloud version of n8n.

Unfortunately, n8n’s API is not available for trial versions. You would have to subscribe to a paid tier.

To get the “n8n API / API key” section, you’ll need to:

1. Upgrade from the trial to the Starter plan (i.e. a paid plan) so that API key feature is unlocked.

2. Once upgraded, go to Settings → n8n API, there should be an option like “Create API key”. That key you can then use (header X-N8N-API-KEY) in integrations like Claude MCP etc. n
