Clarification about Free Self-Hosted License usage in WhatsApp support automation scenario

Hi N8N team!

I work at a company that provides consulting and technology services for cinema chains.
One of our services is a customer support channel for these cinemas, when a customer has a question, they can reach out through the client’s app or website, where our support team handles the requests manually.

We are currently evaluating the possibility of using n8n to build an automated agent integrated with WhatsApp, capable of assisting consumers automatically and escalating to a human agent when needed.

After reviewing the Licenses and Privacy documentation, I would like to confirm whether the following scenario is allowed under the Free Self-Hosted License.

Scenario:
-The consumer initiates a conversation via WhatsApp;

-The AI agent (implemented and orchestrated in n8n) assists the consumer, answers questions, and escalates to a human agent when necessary;

-All orchestration and automation occur on our own self-hosted n8n infrastructure.

Could you please confirm whether this type of use, where n8n orchestrates automated interactions with our clients’ customers (without giving them direct access to n8n) is permitted under the Free Self-Hosted License, or if it requires na enterprise license?

Thank you very much for your time and guidance.

Hi @rsuman

Orchestrating AI ops is typically a permissible use case. Chatbots are even mentioned in our docs as an allowed example.

Hope this helps :slight_smile:

As long the consumer doesn’t pay to access that?
