Code Node Struggles – Is No-Code Really No-Code?

I keep running into situations where the n8n code node feels unavoidable.
Examples:

  • JSON transformations that other nodes can’t handle
  • JavaScript calculations for logic
  • Data cleanups that seem impossible without custom snippets

It makes me wonder: are we still in “no-code,” or is n8n really “low-code” in disguise?

Curious how others handle this — do you avoid code nodes completely, or embrace them as part of building advanced workflows?

Would love to hear your experiences.

Hey @dinesh560, hope all is well!

What makes you think that n8n is a no-code?

n8n is best described as a low-code platform. You can build a lot without writing any code, but as soon as you need custom logic, you’ll have to add some. Without that flexibility, the functionality would be quite limited.

That said, you can often get around writing code by using an AI Agent. You can describe the transformations you need in natural language, and the agent can handle them for you. This makes it easier to cover cases that are too specific or detailed for standard no-code tools.

can you list the features the n8n native ai agent can do?

I am sorry, I am not sure what you are asking. How is this related to you Code Node Struggles?

i am asking generally not related to my post …

If you have an additional question not related to the topic of this thread (and I hope we were able to establish that n8n is a low-code tool), please open a new topic instead, so that other users can benefit by being able to easily find information related to their questions in search. Thank you.

PS. Please ask specific question, like “Can X do Y?” and whether you already searched (which doc?), instead of being broad and asking “List all X can do”, that makes it much easier to answer. It is doubtful anyone can provide a full list of every possible combination of functionality and use case a certain feature can provide.
