Docker pull but still same version

I am a little confused about the upgrade process on docker

I do a
docker stop xxx
docker pull n8nio/n8n (it downloads several things)
docker run xxxxxxxx xxxx xxxx

but my version number stays at 1.18?

What am i doing wrong?

Thank you

Hi @xewonder

If you are not that familiar with Docker I can recommend using something like Portainer to give you a GUI. This allows you to do these kind of things easier with a GUI.

Thank you for the idea.

However, what am i doing wrong? I’m pulling the latest but version number remains the same…

Looks good to me, but I always use Portainer as I cannot deal with remembering 1000s of command lines for everything.

yes… it pulled but the version remains the same…

oh, you are using the latest tag right?
So that might be still on v1.18.

I always use a version number tag as I do not want servers to crash for example and then upgrade themselves.

so i should use

docker pull n8nio/n8n:1.20.0 to get the latest?

v1.18.2 is latest it says. v1.20 is next.

Just to be complete if you just do docker pull n8nio/n8n it will always default to the latest tag which is why there is no change in version. We didn’t make 1.19.x latest as it had some issues but 1.20.0 will likely be marked as latest in a couple of days with 1.21.0 becoming next.
