I’m evaluating whether to stick with the free/open-source N8N self-hosted version or move to the paid n8n.cloud / hosted enterprise version. I’d love to get your inputs on:
What are the core differences between the Free and Paid versions?
Are there any limitations or hidden costs in the self-hosted setup I should be aware of?
Can you share one specific use case where the paid version is clearly better than the open-source one?
The free self-hosted version isn’t truly “free” you’re still paying for hosting infrastructure somewhere, and those costs can actually approach cloud pricing.
With the paid version, you get valuable additions like the AI Assistant (Very powerful) , dedicated support, and freedom from server issues, updates, and management headaches.
Key differences between versions:
Paid: AI Assistant, support, upgrades, no infrastructure management…etc (info)
Keep in mond that n8n is not open source.
It depends on your usecase what you can do with it for free.
And also there are some extra features in the paid versions. There is a list on the pricing page.
