Describe the problem/error/question

Hi, I’m having trouble with my workflow in n8n.

When I run the workflow manually, it works perfectly. But it never starts automatically on its own.

I also noticed that there is no “Activate” toggle/button at the top (like I’ve seen in tutorials online), so I can’t turn it on.

I am the owner/admin of this n8n setup, and I’m just using it for simple personal automations (not for business).

Can you please help me understand why my workflow won’t trigger automatically and why the activate button is missing?

What is the error message (if any)?

There is no ERROR message.

Information on your n8n setup

  • **n8n version:**2.17.8
  • Database (default: SQLite):Defult
  • n8n EXECUTIONS_PROCESS setting (default: own, main):
  • Running n8n via (Docker, npm, n8n cloud, desktop app): Docker in cloud
  • Operating system: Ubuntu

Please “publish” it in order to run workflow automatically

As this is a part of a major change in the new versions of n8n. By the way kjooleng is right.

Topic can be closed — it was because of the “Publish” button.

I thought “Publish” meant making the workflow public (like others can see/use it), so I never tried clicking it. Turns out it just replaces the old “Activate” button.

Such a terrible work-design change.
