The idea is:
Right now, when you want to use Google nodes, such as sheets, or gmail, the user setup is done at workflow edit time. This is very limiting in creating SasS applications where n8n is the backend of the application. It would be great if the user/sso for Google can be set or passed in at runtime. If possible, it would be great to pass in a token via the webhook, but assuming that is not possible, a hosted google login node would be good as well, and then allow google nodes to take their auth for a new Google Login node.
So, a workflow creator would add a “Google Login” node at the start of their workflow which would have a hosted mode - when the workflow runs the user will see a hosted Google Login button, which the user can then login in with. Once the user logins, the rest of the workflow will use that user to login to the Google Sheets node (for example).
My use case:
My use case is for creating an internal web application for my company. Workers at my company login to the site (using their google workspace creds) and they have a bunch of tools they can run. Currently these tools are all executed in n8n by webhook. As of now, there is no way (to my knowledge) for n8n to use their Google workspace (gmail, calendar, sheets, drive). The idea here to allow n8n to execute workflows in their Google workspace (instead of the the google workspace of the creator of the workflow).
This can also be useful in building SaaS applications.
I think it would be beneficial to add this because:
It will make n8n so much more useful to me, but I think to the community at large, it opens up way more use cases for everyone.
Any resources to support this?
Are you willing to work on this?
I am not sure how to do this.
