Hi I am new to n8n cloud and on the lowest paid tier. I have no projects, I have simply created multiple workflows in a folder structure with sub folders in my personal space. Whats really annoying is its not sharing these credentials across workflows, I have already created eg OpenAI credentials for a workflow then when I create an open ai module in another workflow sometimes it does’nt seem to remember and asks me to create more open AI credentials - creating crazy duplication. Why is this happening? anyone pls help!
Hi @mister_p Welcome!
This can only occur when you are creating a project and there inside a project you are defining those credentials, and then you try to create flows into your personal space and there it asks you to create another credentials and back n forth, it is worth checking that you are not actually creating new projects, although this is the first time i have seen this happening, so most likely this can be because of different projects & personal workspace credentials, make sure you are using the same project you have created the flows and credentials in.
(I would recommend downgrade the version on the n8n cloud if you are on the latest beta)
The refresh causes it to forget the credentials I just entered !
When i enter the credentials again, I can then see the duplicates - but it doesnt let you choose from exisiting credentials - nor it seems save these. This is really crazy!
Thanks so much for the many messages of help I really appreciate it! I’m really impressed with this community and look forward to hope one day to helping others like you when my knowledge improves.
So I found the cause and its an odd one that kind of makes sense now, just sharing to improve the knowledge
What I didn’t mention (i did’nt realise it was important) is the workflow I had been using I did not create from scratch, it was created by someone else and imported, I’m assuming with their credentials.
This seems to be why it got stuck and the dropdown could not see the credentials I had made, i assume it was trying to find the ones it had been set up with. I basically solved it by recreated a fresh node of the same type and it was able to then see all the credentials created under my personal account.
Interestingly this did not happen for all nodes with credentials, many nodes seem to detect my credentials just fine despite the workflow being imported.
The modules that seemed to get ‘stuck’ on the credentials from the old instance, seemed to be OpenAI but also the postgres vector DB modules. Those are the only ones I had to recreate.
Anyway, makes sense now what happened, I don’t know why it happened for only some not all modules with credentials.
Anyway thanks so much, its a great platform with huge potential I am excited to imorove my knowledge and join you as an n8n builder.
Thanks again for your many offers of help - really grateful its a nice feeling to be helped so much
