Hello n8n Community,
I’m encountering a very frustrating issue with the “Microsoft Excel account” credential on my n8n Cloud instance. I’m trying to connect to my business/organizational Microsoft 365 account to access spreadsheets on OneDrive/SharePoint, but the credential consistently defaults to my personal Microsoft account, even though both are linked to the same email address.
When I go to create this credential, the authentication flow always results in the credential being labeled “Personal” in my n8n credentials list. This prevents me from listing or interacting with my organization’s Excel files.
Troubleshooting Steps I’ve Already Taken:
Browser Refresh: Multiple refreshes of the n8n UI.
Incognito/Private Mode: I have consistently attempted the connection process from a fresh Incognito/Private browser window.
Comprehensive Microsoft Logout: Before each attempt, I have rigorously signed out of all Microsoft services (Outlook.com, Office.com, Azure Portal, OneDrive, Teams, etc.) in all browser tabs, followed by clearing all browser cache and cookies for “All Time,” and then restarting the browser.
No Custom Credential Fields: As mentioned, the “Microsoft Excel account” credential type on n8n Cloud does not provide fields to enter a custom Azure AD Client ID, Client Secret, or Tenant ID. This suggests n8n is using its own pre-configured application for this connection.
Microsoft Login Choice (When presented): When the Microsoft login prompt asks to choose between “Personal account” and “Work or school account,” I always select “Work or school account.” However, it often defaults to personal, or the choice isn’t explicitly given in a clear way.
Admin Rights (for context): I have Microsoft 365 Admin rights for my organization. I’m aware of Azure AD App Registration configurations, but since I can’t input custom details for this n8n credential, I cannot directly configure it on my end. I’ve verified our Azure AD settings generally allow multi-tenant applications and have granted admin consent for relevant permissions for other services.
Expected Outcome: I need this “Microsoft Excel account” credential to connect to my business/organizational Microsoft 365 account so I can successfully list and use my company’s Excel spreadsheets in workflows.
Has anyone else encountered this specific issue with the n8n Cloud’s Microsoft Excel credential, especially when using an email address linked to both a personal and business Microsoft account? Are there any known workarounds or specific steps I might be missing for this pre-configured credential type?
Any advice or insights from the community would be greatly appreciated!
