My N8N Workflows are getting Automatically Deleted

My N8N workflows from self-hosted instance are getting automatically deleted.

I’ve self-hosted N8N on Digital Ocean and its working fine. But sometimes my workflows get deleted automatically without any reason. While execution history will be there, editor will go completely blank and make it impossible to activate.

I saw some similar reports (Workflows are deleting automatically) but none of them have any solution.

It was very rare earlier (1-2 times it happened last month), but this week I face same issue everyday. Since all other workflows will be unaffected and only 1 workflow gets deleted, it can’t be because of Digital Ocean. …

Can anyone please tell why its happening and how we can prevent it?

Hi @cloudifybiz,

What version are you on?

We had a bug recently where if users saved a workflow while in the executions screen, it made it disappear from the editor. Can you still see your workflow in the execution view?

This bus was fixed on v.1.48.0. Could you update and see if the issue is gone?

Thank youu. My version is 1.45.1. Seems like I need to update.

If you dont mind sharing… do you have any resource which can help me update my N8N on digital ocean without any issue? I’m not really technical person and would love to upgrade without messing.

Thank you in advance.

Of course! You can check our documentation for reference on how to update with Digital Ocean - Digital Ocean | n8n Docs.

You can also see some recommended best practices here - Update self-hosted n8n | n8n Docs.
Although environments are only available for the Enterprise plan, you could still back up your work before updating to make sure it all remains safe. Here’s a workflow template that helps you back up all your workflows to GitHub, for example - Back Up Your n8n Workflows To Github | n8n workflow template
