I’ve encountered a particular case and I’m not sure if it’s a bug or expected behavior. Here’s the context:
We’re using n8n Cloud, version 1.100.1, with two users. One user created an AI Agent, while the other created a tool (workflow) that the agent is supposed to call.
Both workflows are shared between the users.
However, the tool fails to execute when triggered by the AI Agent (created by User A) if the tool was created by the other user (User B).
If the same tool is triggered directly by its creator (User B), it works as expected.
Interestingly, if we duplicate the tool into the workspace of the AI Agent’s creator, it works fine when triggered by the AI Agent.
Could you please suggest some checks to help understand or diagnose the problem?
The behavior you’re describing might be due to permissions or ownership issues between users in n8n Cloud.
Make sure both workflows (Agent and Tool) are not just shared, but also:
- Shared with “Edit + Execute” permission (not just “View”).
- Confirm that the AI Agent’s creator (User A) has the right permissions to execute workflows created by User B.
Even if shared, some AI Agent executions might be restricted by who owns the tool workflow.
If the tool workflow uses credentials (API, DB, etc.), confirm:
- Those credentials are shared between both users.
- And that the AI Agent has access to use them during runtime.
Thanks for the quick response. At the moment, our profile only allows notebooks to be shared in “edit mode”, so the issue is likely due to missing execution permissions.
