Shopify Blog drafts with a quality gate: Research > write from the real catalog > score > save as hidden draft ($0.10/article)

This past weekend, I built a pair of n8n workflows that turn a keyword list in Google Sheets into Shopify blog drafts: unpublished, so a human is always the final reviewer before anything goes live. Sharing the design here simply because the quality gate and the “never auto-publish” part took the most thought.

WORKFLOW #1: Keyword > Shopify Draft - Schedule + Weekly Cap: Runs Mon/Wed/Fri and never creates more than the cap drafts per rolling seven days. Mass-producing pages is exactly what Google’s scaled-content policy targets, so the cap here is deliberate. - Keywords from a Sheet, grouped into topic clusters. - Live Research: Serper pulls the current Google results for the keyword, and the outline step has to name what those results miss. - Real Catalog: A Shopify GraphQL call pulls actual products and collections. The draft may only link to URLs from that provided list, so there are no invented product pages. - Brand Facts: A sheet of facts the model is allowed to state about the store. Anything else counts as an unverified claim. - Outline > Draft with Claude (OpenAI also works). - Quality Gate (Code Node): Scores the draft on word count, required product and collection links, forbidden claims, unverified numbers, and AI filler phrases. Pass > the article is then created in Shopify with published: false, plus SEO title and description. Fail > the draft goes directly to a “Rejected” sheet with the reasons it failed.

Workflow #2: Backlink Updater. It adds a “Related” link between drafts in the same topic cluster. It also only edits drafts.

Real numbers from my test run: 2 articles, 13, 163 input + 17,759 output tokens on Claude Sonnet 5.5, about $0.20 total, so about 10 cents per article in AI cost (Serper not included). Both drafts provided scored 100/100 at 1,823 and 2,106 words. It’s a test score, so I have no real ranking data, and I don’t claim any.

Happy to go into the gate scoring, the Shopify client-credentials token step, or how the weekly cap is counted.
