Code Node Dev in IDE (VSCode, Cursor) Without n8n Utils?

I’d like to dev and maintain code for my n8n Code nodes in VSCode or Cursor. I know that I can debug using utils but I don’t want the overhead of maintaining the entire n8n codebase and I’m using n8n Cloud.

I currently copy and paste the JSON from the previous node(s) into vscode and debug my code. I either have to paste the code back into the Code node and correct every input variable to add the hidden “json” object or alter the input data to add it.

Is there an easier method? Anyone else do this?
