Has anyone actually automated a real business problem and saved thousands in time?

I keep seeing posts about “can you make money with automation?” but they usually focus on the tool (Zapier, n8n, Make, etc.) rather than the actual problem.

What I’m really curious about are real stories where someone spotted a painful bottleneck in their business (or a client’s), automated it, and ended up saving a decent amount of hours — potentially worth thousands of dollars.

• What was the problem?

• How did you automate it?

• What impact did it actually have (time/money saved)?

I feel like that’s the part nobody really talks about, and it’s what I’m trying to learn from.

Thanks everyone in advance

So within a bookkeeping firm, we implemented n8n automation, which resulted in annual time savings of 600 hours. However, this efficiency gain enabled the business to scale up and quadruple their client list without requiring additional hires, effectively saving 2,400 hours. This translated to a wage saving of approximately $30,000. It’s essential to note that the success wasn’t solely due to n8n automation; it was also attributed to the introduction of new pre-accounting software. The n8n workflows specifically automated document management and client follow-ups, which the pre-accounting software didn’t cover.

If a human does something step by step and is a routine… well thats the point of automation.

What saves? TIME ! and after comes others.

Ex: at last 2 hours a day responding manually to 40-50 clients with banal questions. Now, an agent can do it(even better than i do it), and surprise! got some new leads as well

Thanks for sharing this, it’s really inspiring! I’m struggling to identify the best starting point for automation. In your case, how did you pinpoint the bottleneck worth automating? Did you start with a small workflow and build upon it, or did you map out the entire process from the beginning? I’m about to automate processes for a larger business and I’m looking for that first quick win. Any tips on how you identified the opportunity would be super helpful

anyone have a case study on this topic? i need sources for my thesis
