How to get the free self-hosted license key? Onboarding screen not showing

Hello n8n community,

I have a self-hosted instance of n8n running on Google Cloud with Docker. I’m trying to get the free license key to activate Pro features like folders and version history.

However, I never saw the “Customize n8n to you” onboarding screen, and I can’t find any banner or link inside my n8n instance to request the key. The old links I found online are all leading to 404 error pages.

Could you please let me know what is the current, official way to get a free license key for a self-hosted installation?

Are you on the latest version of n8n? If so try and click this folder button. It’ll trigger the popup. If you dont see the folder button, then you might have an old version of n8n running

If still nothing, then do this:

1. Run n8n locally using npx n8n. This will install the latest version locally
2. Follow the step above to click the add folder button
3. IMPORTANT: Use the email address you used to log into your hosted instance and apply the key there.

@PTN When you request a key can you check the logs at the same time and see what is happening ?
