Did you select the ‘Personal’ view? And what do you mean with paid community/self-hosted?
Wonderful, we’ve been hanging out for this for a long time, great to finally see it!! Joined the forum to say thanks team, and especially for implementing it for the community edition.
Some feedback - having the sort order always default to modified date (which was already unintuitive for a list of workflows) doesn’t work well with navigating a heirarchy of folders. Have voted for the feature request to change this, is it on your radar at all?
Love the update, thank you! Can we consider adding the option to assign a workflow to a folder from within the workflow? Add a menu option.
Folder feature is great! love this update!
This is such a helpful feature!
Hey n8n!
Fantastic feature. Thank you so much for this. I can now sort my workflows into “app specific” folders. This should make finding a specific flow so much easier.
After using this for a few days, I have some feedback. You likely have some of this on your radar, but maybe not.
In no particular order…
- Sorting should either be sticky.
- Sorting preference. There should be a preference that I can select to default to a specific sort.
- Breadcrumbs in the editor. I’d like to be able to go back to the folder I’m working in. If I’m in a folder five deep, I’d have to navigate from the top each time I need to edit a different workflow.
- A close button in the editor that closes the current editor and displays the current folder?
- The editor could open in a new tab/window or overlay? Although, this would also need a close button in the editor.
- Folder hierarchy in the left gutter. Similar to most OSes. Good for navigation.
Should this be a new thread?

Not yet, but it’s in our radar. Thanks for the feedback.
This is in our radar, for folders “v2”. Thanks for the feedback.
Most of the improvements you mentioned are already on our radar for folders “v2.” I will bring up the ones that aren’t with the team. Thanks for the feedback!
Why we cannot put folder on sidebar ? For me folder are similar than tag…
Agree, the sidebar is currently a wasted space.
I would like to have some folders (root ones and subfolders ) to be able to be pinned to the sidebar.
I wrote a couple of usability improvements here (folder breadcrumb within workflows and folder list in the left hand sidebar): Folders - Usability Improvements, but I also just remembered about another one.
It would be great if the folder dropdown (when moving a workflow) was actually a dropdown select list not just a search, as sometimes it’s easier to just look for a folder whose name you might not remember exactly.
And one more thing: in the overview, folders are displayed with triple dots in between Personal and the folder name, even though there’s no folder in between the two. This visual representation makes sense to show the name of a subfolder, but for main folders it can be confusing.
Also, since folders, you cannot see the user who created the workflow anymore in the overview, and that’s useful information.
Another one: there is no option to move a workflow to folder from the Overview, but there is an option to share, which is not available in the community version. I would add the move to folder option and remove the share option.
I’m on a self hosted, registered community version of n8n.
Also, an ordering by workflow status (active/inactive) would help a lot as well, I’d like to see the active workflows on top, not an inactive one in which I entered maybe to just check something.
Thx for folders! I don’t believe it is finally true)))))
Thank you for (finally) bringing folders!
A suggestion would be to add the ability to disable all workflows with a folder just by “disabling” the folder.
i love this new folder feature…
I hope we can assign a shortcuts, favorites, or quick access to the folders here in the side bar
Definitely this.
I cannot do folders as I have so many workflows. We need global search.
If I organzie with folders by business area - When I want to search for my zoom workflows, I have to go into folder by folder till I find.
This is a deal breaker to use folders
Yes, that is going to be our next improvement. We have a PR ready for that.
Custom views and favorites are in our radar.
