🎂 We're celebrating - n8n turns five!

We’re celebrating!

5 years ago we launched n8n on Product Hunt and we’re super proud to look back on what we have achieved so far. And we couldn’t have done it without you, our passionate community! You keep pushing us to improve n8n, keep sharing your excitement with others and now also meet both the n8n team and other community members around the world! We’re humbled to see the changes we’re making to both personal and professional settings, and can’t wait to see what the next five years will bring.

A Short History of n8n

Work on n8n actually started around April 2018 by our founder Jan, who then worked in the VFX industry. Part of his role was to improve and simplify the work of the artists by automation and that is where his passion for this field started.

By October 2019 n8n had received a facelift and it was publicly launched on Product Hunt - we consider this our true birthday as it really started to take off then.

It didn’t take long for our first investors to come knocking on Jan’s door, and by June 2020 we had 4 employees and our own office!

the first four employees

One year later, in April 2021, we raised our first series A of $12 million dollars, allowing us to expand our team and work on more features you needed.

In December 2020 we launched the n8n cloud, allowing users to quickly set up an instance and not worry about the technical details. Early 2023 we onboarded our first Enterprise customer. Both steps greatly helped n8n become more and more accepted, and also helped solidify our financial future.

The next huge change was integrating AI/LangChain into n8n in October 2023 (can you believe that’s only 1 year ago?). By then we already had a rock-solid foundation of workflow tools and integrations, and the new AI tools perfectly augmented them.

n8n’s popularity keeps increasing

In 2024, our growth rate is continuing to accelerate - we were, in fact, the fifth fastest growing startup in Germany this year! We have spent a good part of the year on fixing legacy issues, making both the app and the cloud infrastructure more stable. Also, we identified our most popular/important nodes and added some much needed updates to them.

We’re excited to see what the future will bring - here’s to many more years of innovation and success!

Our Incredible Team

This all wouldn’t have been possible without an amazing and passionate team - we’re now already at 62 people, all of us automation enthusiasts and tinkerers like you!

Most of us are working remotely from Europe, but we do have a few team members in the US as well. (We have a small office in Berlin - we’re actually in the process of moving offices and we’ll share pictures of our new place another time). We value our company culture and personal contacts. We often meet each other - in fact the entire team will be at an off-site in Italy next week to celebrate together!

If this sounds good to you, we have job openings! Please check our careers page to learn more about our culture and open positions. We’d love to meet you

Happy Birthday or in Klingon: qoSraj botIvjaj! :hugs:

For me finding n8n has been huge. Took my AI automations to a completely new level and we have now decided to start building most of our startup on n8n…

Happy birthday to the whole crew! :cake: :champagne:

I found n8n a few years ago, as a DevOps developer looking for a better way to deal with the complexity of my automations. I was wrapped in Python scripts, bash files, and a whole lot of logs. Things were good, but it was a lot of staring at the abyss of the command line. I felt like things could be easier… so began my search for something… epic.

When I was programming VR games, I had really enjoyed the node based programming in game engines (interesting to hear Jan was in VFX optimizations and workflows… makes sense!) to me, n8n offered the best of both worlds, power and ease, with a visual node based workflow - smashing!

And, of course, a great community! I really enjoy hanging with you all in the community meetups online and seeing amazing, funny, unexpected, and awesome workflows with a great group of… #flowgrammers :D.

Now I find myself ambassadoring and setting up n8n meetups for the local community, who knew!

So, next St Louis n8n meetup, we’ll have some cake for n8n’s birthday :birthday:.

Thanks team, and to many more!

Happy birthday.

I found n8n while looking for alternative workflow solutions I was currently running.

I wanted the ease of no-code with the ability of some low-code when I needed it.

I’m so glad to have found n8n.

Happy Birthday, n8n :tada:

I have been using it since 2020. It’s a very long time. @jan is the first person to answer my question here in the forum. Pretty much most of the people on the team know me (I believe)

n8n has grown much bigger. I want to share some beautiful memories.

First, public commit by @jan

I was immersed in March 2022 in n8n by a comrade who passed away last May, showed me how to install on the server during a small group training.

For the first time in my life I learned how to put local applications on a server and gained experience and this experience opened up a new world of open source applications.

After that I practically gave up on integromat (make) (all because of the public google app) The very first thing I worked with was linking to google tables and utm link shorteners. Configuring screnarios in n8n allowed me to recover lost data of more than 30,000 deals after a hacker attack on CRM (Many thanks to @BramKn for the iteration node).

Feeling the potential I moved almost all automation from make to n8n and now n8n is the main automation tool, Now signing documents, Synchronization with CRM (formatting names and phone numbers), Automatic transcription of zoom calls and summaries in a single folder with a record, booking consultations and much more I use now. I allowed such features that would not have been possible on other platforms.

Special thanks to the creators of n8n team and people supporting the community. Congratulations!

From the bottom of my heart, I congratulate you! I’ve only been using your product for a few days, but I’m amazed that something like this exists and even has a free version. Of course, I will contribute to your project, it’s just that for now, living in Russia, I don’t have a way to make a payment, but I’ll find a way. Thank you for being there! You’re the best!
