Hi guys, I am wondering that what is the different between runing n8n desktop app forever and runing n8n on my own server. what should I worry about if I run n8n desktop app for production?
If you, for example, turn off your computer, n8n will stop, and the workflows will not execute. That is why you need a server always running.
Gotcha, that makes sense. So n8n desktop app is just like the n8n.cloud, but the downside of using n8n on desktop is unable to run the app forever.
That is correct.
There are a few other differences as well. Some important ones are:
- Some nodes are not available on the n8n desktop - eg. Kafka nodes, Edit Image. We plan to add them in the future and make them available on the desktop too.
- On n8n.cloud, most of the nodes (that support the OAuth authentication method) can be authenticated with a single click. You don’t have to create and configure credentials.
Currently, one can’t update the n8n desktop app with the newer version of n8n. We are working on it and hopefully, it should be out soon.
