I have been self-hosting for a year and my activation key for the free premium plan has never worked. How do I get it to work?
Hi @Edwin_Kocher Welcome!
I guess your n8n instance is already activated with that license key, to confirm please click on the settings and then usage and plans, then you would see something like:
If it says ‘Registered’ it means that it is activated, let me know if you need further assistance with that. Hope this helps.
the best next step is to check the n8n startup logs to confirm how the license is being loaded, and if the status is still incorrect, contact n8n support with the key and the screenshot so they can verify or reset the license on their side.
@Edwin_Kocher Please consider reading this:
Okay, thank you, but I have everything blocked in the paid version too. My key never works, even though it says it’s valid and activated. That’s not the case.
@Edwin_Kocher The “Registered” status means that your self hosted Community Edition instance is linked to a free license key It does not provide the same features as the paid cloud plans. The n8n Cloud or a corresponding paid license for self hosting are required for the features you’re expecting (paid tiers) everything still looks “blocked” although the key is valid. In order to gain access to these options, you would need to upgrade to a paid plan or just continue using Community Edition with the functionality described in the docs I linked to above. Hope this helps.
Hi guys! @Edwin_Kocher, From what I know, activation keys on self hosted instances usually fail either because the n8n version is outdated or because the instance cannot reach license on port 443. I would check the logs right after entering the key for connection or timeout errors, make sure the N8N_ENCRYPTION_KEY has not changed, and if it still fails, email [email protected] with the instance ID and key so they can reset it.
